Daily Report Card: D
-morning prep: D
-market prep: D
-stock prep: C
-level of focus: A
Rationale:
-BYND has been on my watchlist ever since earnings on 10/28 AMC; i've actually done a good job not getting caught up in BYND thus far
-11/4 was the only day where it provided a trade that corresponded with technical levels and the market
-fresh news on this day: Bernstein upgraded BYND to outperform and maintained price target
Trade Strategy:
-get long above 84.73 technical area as price holds for 2+ 1m candles or as price pulls back to level
How much risk should/did I take?
-500; 4% of NLV
-overall took too much risk as I traded this unprofitably on the long and short side
-when allocating a unit of R to a trade; my rules need to allow for that risk to include all trades for that ticker - added this to 2nd day play playbook
Recap / Trade Management:
-took 5 trades total; 3 short and 2 long
-on the short trade, I was attempting to trade with the market (flawed given this really isn't a market vehicle/proxy), but I like to trade with the market
-led me to short this without getting really good prices (ie, short without being near high volume area 83.72-84.73
short trades
-shorted this name 1 too many times and got chopped up; 1 winner, two losers
-none of the entries were particularly bad, I just didn't give the name enough time to move and took the quick loss (this could mean I was in too big, not clearly defining my risk, not giving the trade enough room, trading my P&L -> think all of these reasons play a factor)
-on the first entry, I scaled into it given price was below VWAP (unsure if i saw anything on the tape); need to expect these large stocks to leak above VWAP, almost every one of the large names I monitor leak above or below VWAP
-the more appropriate short is to wait for price to get below the Day 1 PM low
long trade
-two long entries
-one of the entries was a technical error as I entered in the middle of the 83.74-84.73 high volume price channel
-the second entry was a really good entry, trade just didn't work out -> this entry is how all of these 2nd day plays should look; also risk was well defined as I was able to keep loss to .09 per contract on 4 lots
What did I do well?
-entry on last long trade
How could I have traded this better?
-keep risk to 1R on the ticker vs. strategy (long vs. short)
What did the tape look like during the most important moments intraday?
Where could I have been responsibly bigger?
-TBD
Gain/loss relative to expected gain/loss:
-loss larger than expected
-got a little loose with risk given my trade on BA was a win so I didn't factor my realized loss on BYND prior to the long trade; should have passed on it or entered 1 lots since I had already lost 119 on the trade
