• Shares of Morgan Stanley (MS) surged 2.5% toward a 20-month high in premarket trading Thursday, after the investment bank and broker reported fourth-quarter profit and revenue that rose well above expectations. Net income increased to $ 2.90 billion , or $1.30 a share, from $1.53 billion , or 80 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. The FactSet consensus for earnings per share was $1.02 . Total revenue grew 27% to $10.86 billion , above the FactSet consensus of $ 9.71 billion . Institutional securities revenue rose 32% to $5.05 billion , beating the FactSet consensus of $4.46 billion . Within trading, equity sales and trading revenue slipped 0.5% to $1.92 billion , just shy of the FactSet consensus $1.93 billion , while fixed income revenue more than doubled (up 126%) to $1.27 billion , beating expectations of $859.0 million . Investment banking revenue rose 11% to $1.58 billion to top expectations of $1.52 billion . The stock has rallied 23.7% over the past three months through Wednesday, while the SPDR Financial Select Sector ETF (XLF) has gained 9.5% and the S&P 500 has advanced 10.0%.

There were parts of this day that you could see bids refresh and then offers refresh and step down. There was no distinct change in the tape as it came of the top.

Trade Notes
• I started with small scalp as this came across56.50 and twice and took profit on the stalls. There was just enough on these two to help me feel comfortable to size up on the next few trades.
• I took another long as this consolidated at 56. I tapped out as it flush below .90 right before the break back above 56. Where I managed long just before VWAP for a small winner with the remainder being tapped out just under VWAP
• I took a long on the anticipated hold of 56.50 took a 10 cent partial but only 14 cents on the rest. I followed that with a short as 56.80 could not hold with another good partial and an exit at t he SMA
• I took this trade as the tape looked like it was going to hold.75 and took a full tap here with a little size.
• I held a core throughout the up 57 and a little beyond add a little late looking for extension above 57.10 giving back a little because of the add
• Red tape momentum short,. I felt that I may have come off the top. This lead me to hold this a little longer that I should have over 57.
• I took a hit trying to hit this short at 57.25. But, I managed to catch off 57.36 targeting but bailed as it bounced off 57. I attempted to short again as it started to close below 57 but got taped out as this moved back to 57.15. Where I flipped to the long side and got just enough to scratch out before I moved back to the short side under 57.
• The last series of short was pretty well managed I took a partial and added back in a little and ended up having to take it off around 56.75 even though I felt like it would get to VWAP/
