thank you. i thought about shorting that prev wick as well, which i dont think was a bad entry, but I passed bc it was a little early (before 1pm). Still the idea was good enough that if you took that prev entry and got stopped on the $281 wick you coulda re-entered the short.
They are consistent if the market environment is right. The market squeeze of the last 3 weeks this strategy did not perform consistently and I took some losses last week.
Ive been trading professionally for 6 years. For whatever reason, be it my personality or what have you, I am most comfortable mean reverting so I stick to that strategy for most part.
very true. Past 3 weeks breakouts have been working alot better. Before that i was using similar strategy over extension shorts on stocks that move 20% more then their full ATR. Like AMZN or NFLX i really like these trades too it gives me a good edge.
But trying to find the top is def difficult haha. What other set ups do you find to be working?
Very cool I want to be a full time trader but its been a bumpy road
Yes breakout momo worked incredibly well last 3 weeks. I lost some money fading those moves bc I had the bias that breakouts typically dont work in bear markets so I was anticipating a lot of fails. But I was very wrong.
Mean reversion is a tougher strategy on the whole i think - remember the trend is your friend. And I think over the last 5 years momentum has gotten stronger and more prevalent with all the quant strategies basically doing the same thing so for me its more important to recognize when mean reversion is working and when to sit on my hands or scalp.
Trading is the hardest game there is. There are so many struggles along the way. But if you have the passion, can find your edge and continuously improve you can do it. The fact that you are logging your charts on this site and looking at others trades tells me you're well on your way. There are also a ton of great traders on twitter that put out a lot of great content/education. SMB Capital and Mike Bellafiore put out some of the best. You can learn a lot from them - I still do.
Ya the reversal was stronger then anyone imagined. Same thing def happened to me also.
I suck at joining trend plays something about getting in at a higher "chase" price just doesn't click for me haha. Ya these algos can push things all day when they want to. Illogical market.
Thanks for the encouraging words. Ya its definitely all about routine and taking action everyday. I actually have the SMB DNA course and looking through it now. SMB is one of the few legit online educations out there. When i first started in penny stocks it was not a fun ride. Just chasing every play still trying to get out of the habit
