Trade Description
I intended to short the stock under R1 with the stop-loss slightly above R1 and the target at S1
Action.
1. The stock opened under 200ma, 20ma and R1 which confirmed the bearish bias, but the stock traded up, so I waited for the right entry.
2. The good entry setup happened when the 3ed (red) bar overcame the previous green one at 31.9 with the stop-loss at the high of the opening bar plus 1c at 32.16. I missed the entry because I attended to the other trade (WORK) and I chased the price shorting 1 lot. I shouldn't have done this because now I had R/R of 1.
3. I added 1 lot to the position at 31.39 - also late.
4. Finally I passively exited the entire position near the target.
5. I waited for the stock to consolidate above the S1 and shorted 1 lot after the price went below S1, then bounced up to S1 and went below S1 again. Soon the price went against the trade and I added another lot to the short position on the way up, but eventually was stopped out of the trade with a small loss.
6. The third attempt to short the stock should have never happened as it incorporates all trading sins: ego (using the same reason to short - price under S1 - after it already didn't work a few bars ago), FOMO (shorting at the low of the bar) and inability to notice the higher low.
Lessons learned.
- don't trade two stocks at the open, not yet.
- if you missed the entry, don't enter at R/R of 1, never.
- when the stock goes under the S1 wait longer for consolidation UNDER the S1. Apparently 3 bar consolidation was not enough.
- control your emotions
- the proper way to play this setup AFTER you missed the initial entry would be as follows:
Wait for the first reversal (bars 6 and 7), then go for a quick scalp short using 3-4 lots. Enter in the beginning of bar 7, stop loss at the high of bar 6, target S1.
