To me it looked like the short term trend was making lower highs and lower lows, but I went back at the charts and noticed the sma's were underneath. Once again I tried to time a reversal but there was not set up and paid... I think I was thrown off by the oversold stochastics. and the last dip had the moving averages below. How should I avoid this or know to go long in the future please.

No setup to go short here. Just because a stock approaches a stock resistance does not mean short it. Have to let a pattern form.
