I traded terribly today. I Chased. Screwed up orders: entered by accident(GPRO) pulled stop then couldn't get out and lost site of where I was at in the price action(BMRN). Entered Trades bc of GREED (ACHN#1) Too many positions, espcially considering I was unsure how this short day was going to unfold.
This day is an embarrassment and fucking hurts. I must get better
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I look at this trade now and it looks like I chased, and I totally blew the exit.
I originally entered cuz it broke the flag formed by the 11:30 and 3:45 peaks from yesterday around 88(see 15 minute chart).
I tried to get in at 88.17 but didn't get filled.
Well, the good thing about this trade is that it is changing how I input my orders.
I was up really well on this, then after the 9:55 candle that had that big wick up, I cancelled my stop for 88.62 and tried to limit out at 88.91
Original Stop 84.44 (cancelled) I didn't have a target for a 1st partial-but should have
9:55 moved Stop 88.62 (cancelled)
10:00 Limit 88.91 (cancelled)
10:10 88.26 filled
High of 89.58 (218)
In this case, when i pulled my stop to try to limit out, I need to replace it with an OCO order so I still have a stop in while trying to work the limit
The difference it working it this way in this trade was $72.
Also, from high to my exit was a $264 swing in $$$. I need to stick with a plan to sell a partial. Following up higher lows is fine, but need to adapt if the price action seems to be changing.
Even a conservative estimation of taking off 1/3 (70 shares)at $89 would have turned this from a loser to a scratch, and I could have done better than that.
Another byproduct of my exit confusion was I lost my bearings in regard to price action and MA's, etc.
Also part of this exit screwup is due to entering ACHN- which was an even bigger chase and appeal to the degenerate gambler in me.
