Intraday Fundamentals
• 08:22 ET - Shares for rival discounters Dollar Tree and Dollar General head in different directions premarket, after both chains report quarterly results, with Dollar Tree's stock down 6% and Dollar General's up 0.9%. The latter chain reported stronger same-store sales than the former, and appears to have managed Covid-19 costs better. Overall, Dollar General says it spent about $116M related to the virus during 1H of its fiscal year, while Dollar Tree reports almost $ 135M in pandemic costs for its fiscal 2Q alone. Dollar Tree also said expenses tied to "civil unrest in certain communities" totaled $16.8M in the quarter, while Dollar General makes no mention of that dynamic. Trading Strategy
• Short 102 if it manages to have enough early bounce to get there at the open this would have about 2 points of risk. So, take it small and add to it dropping the stop to HoD when it starts to work keeping similar risk.
• Long 98 and risk 97.50 be patient, if this trade fails stay away from long and shorts until 97.60 holds again
• VWAP tests on the right side stop into these if you expect them to hold and wait for a SMA support set up if you think they will break
Reading the Tape
I never find it easy to see things on the tape with stocks that spread.

Trade Notes
I hit this as a VWAP resistance test willing to take the HoD. It did not work. I am not sure that there is a better way to run this trade during the opening. This was the trade of the day though. I tried to wait for this to hit the LoD from the prior day to re-short and it never quite got there. I did set up small enough to let this play for an hour or two if it would have held the HoD at the time.
I needed to HoD this one on the stop. Even if I would have stuck to the breaking candle stop on this, I could have trimmed risk to the candle that wicked me out and again just above 100 about 7 minutes after the spike. I was already managing the p&l.
I got back in and didn't hold the trade even as it was working....
