Tried this twice thinking I was catching a bottom but actually was down trending all day with lower lows. Should have not taken it or gone short.

If you're on a downswing try to avoid countertrend trades as they typically have lower probabilities of winning. Double bottoms is great reversal setup but I don't see that pattern here. And this stock shows too much weakness on a bullish day.
