TRADE: Time of day - CLOSING
I began my trading with a support play off consolidation at $3.54 for 100. I hit out of the stock when the held bid dropped for a loss of 1 1/2 cents. Got back at $3.54 once the bid lifted and scalped 6c on 2 lots and never risked more than 3 cents. I scalped based on reading the tape and momentum. The stock was trending all day and had hit a HOD at $3.77 around 12:20pm. My Thesis was that the stock was trying to get back to HOD which it did. I followed the stock and bought at consolidation. I was feeling really great that I was being patient and let the plays come to me. My last scalp was at $3.74 where I sold my last 3 lots. I was up $111.00. Feeling really good
MISTAKE #1: At HOD I was out, but still thought the stock would go to $4. On the 5-minute chart, the next bar was red which I mistook for consolidation. My error was that since we had hit HOD, there really was no reason for it to keep going higher. I went back in with 6 lots and the stock took a huge rip. In panic, I added another 6 lots to my position. At this point I had lost half of my effort.
MISTAKE #2: I thought that the stock would rebound and held it instead of hitting the bids. it went down to $3.49, 5cents below from where I had started.
WHAT I LEARNED: For a trending stock that has hit HOD, retraces to VWAP and trends long back to HOD, scalp and recycle shares as planned, but once you get to your target, sit back and monitor. Always refer to the 5-minute chart to confirm end of trend. Once the trade goes away from you HIT THE BIDS. Hoping the stock goes back up is not trading, that's gambling.
