ANTI PLAYBOOK -
Chasing a play down- BA- Had the right set up and read. missed the real move and tried to force a play into S
I really liked this play short if the action failed to take out key R above based on the fact that despite positive earnings, the gap was right up to resistance, the premarket trend was lower and action was trading right into a really important level at 142 where I could control my risk if the action gets below there looking to play for a gap fill.
Research and information collection (what I was seeing and where I sourced the idea)
Earnings- Beat and raised but could not get above prior key R level at 144 gapping right up into that level.
My playbook allows me to look for a couple of different plays but failing at a key R level with good news is important.
Creativity and the generation of trading idea (my thought process for what could develop)
Watching the price action from the open it could not get above 142 (pre-market low) so I was looking for one of my plays
Entry execution and position management (Why did I take the play, why did I size as I did and what was my plan?)
Idea was a good one but here is where I turned one mistake into two
Looked at taking entry on 9:50 on the break and hold below vwap and intraday consolidation
Great entry, right idea, no reason not to get involved other than I was looking at a bunch of different things at the same time and did not get myself into a focused state.
Did not take this and action broke hard on big volume right down to key support level at 136.75 (that was the play)
When action rallied up into R and seemed to have trouble I looked for a continuation move but the play had already happened and I had no business trying to short here.
Risk management and exit execution (My plan for the play and my reasons2sell)
Was too large in the play 2 tiers as I played it like a breaking news play looking for a trend play to develop but again NR
Self Management (Specifically self talk and did I support myself in a way that allowed me to execute to plan)
allowed myself to miss the real trade and then chase into a trade with no edge- poor self management
Why is this my anti-playbook trade and what do I need to do to improve
Anti playbook trade because I did not take the initial play and then went and chased the action down looking for the action to extend when the move already had occurred. Turning one mistake into two.
To improve I need to focus. This is a competitive and intense game. Every day, it is important to select a focus and stay with it
Plenty of opportunity through each day and each week. When I force something not only am I not making the most of my strengths but I am giving away real good opportunities that can lead to some excellent opportunities.
