This was a screwup with ToS. It reset my share size to 300 (my default) so when I covered my 100 share short I ended up 200 long. Then I tried to get out of that and my order for selling 200 locked up, so I cancelled it, hit sell again, then both executed and I ended up 200 shares short. All of this happened in about 3 seconds and didn't really cost me anything other than $10 in commission it shouldn't have cost me. I have since fixed the problem by turning off auto-reset for the share size box. In retrospect maybe I should have taken it as an omen that I shouldn't have covered my short, since it then proceeded to drop like $1.20/share, lol
