Late in the day pullback, I couldve let it run but my thinking was that it just made a lower high.

Yeah... turned out to be a flag forming... but at the time you were protecting your loss since (I assume) you felt unsure with the daily being extended. Thing is.. keep watching to see if it was a flag forming or a rollover. Higher lows says there's no direciton really chosen yet.
