Since 7/30 $STXS had been beasting to the up side. It went from $2 to $10 in (4) market days and I knew it was due for a pull back. At 3:20 on 8/5 I thought we had reached the top and was happy to get a short sale in as the price fell below all the EMA's just under $9. I placed a 3K share short sale order at $8.95 and filled within one cent which was all of my buying power at 2X margin. Unfortunately this was not the true top as the next few minutes to the close and the next day proved it had a bit more to go up about $2 more, which left me down almost 6K (unrealized). I did not see a good way to get out of this trade and I was still pretty sure it was going down so I hung on to it as a swing which was not my initial intention but seemed like the necessary play to not take a huge loss just to get in short on another day, also in my experience these momo stocks seem to have the majority of their movement during the after hours or early morning so I was happy to take the risk knowing the potential gains were huge even compared to the 6K I was already down. And what do you know the very next day the stock gapped down a dollar in the am and another dollar through the day. I was now in the green and could have happily gotten out of this position with a small gain / faded a huge loss by my standards but since all of my buying power was being used at 2X leverage and left me no capitol to make additional trades with I decided to hang in there for another day and see what time tells. Time told me I was a very fortunate man as my former $8.40 stock gapped down once again but this time a whopping $3 to $5.40 and an eventual sale/cover at $5.10 from $8.95 was a huge success to the tune of $11,500.00. Not bad for using all of my buying power for three days. Not sure I would have taken this much risk with real money but it was a great experiment in swing trading for me.
