Good trading today on GME, Gamestop. GME had made a new 52-week low and was poised for a short sell out of the opening range. The stock did not follow through, so I stopped out for a $13.07 profit. Ed took the same trade in his small account with Suretrader:

What’s the lesson here?

Ed thought that the market makers were messing with this stock. There was very heavy support at 12.20, around 28k shares of volume, which made me stop out. He thought these lower priced names were very easy to manipulate. That’s why he doesn’t typically trade them, but it was the only one that set up today.

My mistake was that I did not take larger size. The 5-period ATR on the 5-minute was about 0.28, so I could have given the stock around 25 cents and put on at least 200 shares, instead of the 100 shares I took. That would have made commissions as a percentage of my gains smaller.

Overall, you kept good focus. You had some eye on the small-caps out of the open and almost traded some of them, but shifted focus immediately back to GME before the 5-minute candle closed as it looked to set up for an opening range breakdown.

The challenge will be not to pay any mind to the small-caps in the following weeks. Ed, though, in his video on position-sizing said he would not trade stocks with average ATR below $1.00. The markets close tomorrow for Good Friday, will wait until Monday after Easter Sunday for the open.
