Textbook momentum trade. I wish I could give you the exact details that make this trade a 'textbook momentum trade' but I can't.
I know it was up premarket with news. I was looking for it to open high and buy it at the open if it broke out above the premarket high in the 2.80s. it broke 3 instantly and shot to 3.50 and never looked back. I didn't chase it and put my attention elsewhere.
THen it was consolidating tightly just below 4 before 10am, I took a stab risking the consolidation low, it was looking good so I added another lot just above 4.00. Honestly, I was scared so I sold 1/4 of the position at 4.13. OMFG I underestimated it. Although, it did calmed me down and allow me to ride this wave to the end.
However, had I waited 1 minute and 30 seconds longer, I could have taken that quarter off at 4.33.
My average for the entry was 3.94 and my exit average was 4.59 for 16.5% gain.
That's awesome, nothing to turn your nose up at. Those are real solid, account growing gains.
Steve Spencers scale, says a well managed trade for me on this move would have netted me $42.40 compared to my actual profit of $26. Thats about 63% towards a good score on this move.
To be honest I totally underestimated it. I'll add to my notes that when a low flow takes off at the open and it consolidates before 10 in a tight band, it can run another couple of dollars.
It's so exciting. I did well, but I could have done so much better!
